Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course deals with issues indispensable for nurses as stoma carers and educators. At the end of the course, students will have attained knowledge and skills necessary for safe practice in meeting individual client needs in stoma care. The will have developed dextrity for performing particular nursing interventions.
Syllabus
  • Practical sessions:
    1. Urostomy, tracheostomy, ileostomy, colostomy
    2. Pediatric stoma care (toddlers, children), stoma care and handling in pre-term newborns
    3. Colostomy care and accessories. Stoma complications and problem-sovling
    4. Regulation of colostomy and ileostomy function
    5. Diets in gastrointestinal stomas
    6. Local care of gastrointestinal stomas
    7. Rehabilitation as a part of stoma care
