- Course objectives
- The goal of the course is to acquaint the students with the position of this discipline among other disciplines in medical practice. It focuses not only on clinical biochemical analysis of particular organs but includes also chapters concerning analysis of plasmatic proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and the resulting metabolic disorders of human organism. The beginning of the laboratory process, i.e. sampling of biological material and pre-analytic influence on the results of laboratory analysis are discussed separately. The course describes in short the basic parameters of laboratory assessment as well as the fundamentals of clinical practice with the aim of correct understanding of basic metabolic connections between the two disciplines and of correct interpretation of laboratory results. After finishing the course, the student will have good grasp of the facilities of laboratory analysis of particular compartments of human organism; however, these do not comprise all content of clinical biochemistry, they are merely selected chapters dealing with the most important and most common analyses of clinical laboratory practice.
