Prerequisites
Expert knowledge and competencies:
The subject graduates will have the knowledge of the origins of European integration, its character and development. On the completion of the course, they will have the knowledge of the EU institutions and will be able to clearly define their authorities and explain their composition. They will also be able to differentiate between the primary and secondary law. They will be able to clearly define the character and extent of regulations, directives and decisions. Students will also demonstrate the knowledge of the framework of a member state´s responsibility for breaching the EU law as well as the individual´s responsibility for breaching this law. This is related to the ability to classify legal actions and proceedings taken at the EU courts. Further, students will be familiarized with the application of the EU law in member states, with the law interpretation by the EU courts, with ensuring a uniform interpretation of EU law, with the preliminary ruling procedure, etc. Besides this knowledge, students will gain a grasp of the customs union development from the common market to the single internal market, the free movement of workers, the EU citizenship, and also of the coordination of social security systems within the EU and the harmonization of labor law within the EU. Further knowledge that students will acquire will concern free movement of services and capital, recognition of qualifications, prohibition of cartels and consumer protection.

Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to familiarize students with the history and significance of European economic and political integration. Identifying fundamental sources of the EU law. gaining a complex view of fundamental European freedom of the traffic of goods, services, people and capital.

  • 1. The term of EU law. European integration and the beginnings of European communities. European Union.
    2. EU institutions (European Commission, Council, European Council).
    3. EU institutions (European Parliament, European Court of Justice).
    4. The sources of EU law. Institutional links, decision-making procedures.
    5. The EU law enforcement.
    6. The EU law interpretation.
    7. Common market - internal market, free movement of goods, business relationships within the EU.
    8. Free movement of people within the EU.
    9. Social and labor legislation within the EU.
    10. Freedom to settle, free movement of services and the capital within the EU.
    11. Commercial Companies Law. Economic competition in the Common Market.
    12. Further areas of the EU law adaptation.
    13. The sources of information on the EU law.
