- Expert Knowledge:
Student understands the relation of language policy to relevant scientific disciplines and has a good general knowledge of current state of research, terminology, methods and major theories that are useful for creating language policies. Students are also able to describe and explain the role of international languages, they understand sociolinguistic situation in Europe and are able to describe languate policies across Europe. Students are also able to explain and describe language policy of the Czech Republic on the basis of their knowledge of the contemporary and historical state.
Expert Skills:
Based on their knowledge, students will be able to select the sources that must bet he foundation for the informed proces of creating the language policy within the EU. The possibility of comparison of the individual and common approaches within the EU and outside of it will enable students to fit the language policy correctly into the wider context.

- Course objectives
- The subject content has been selected with the purpose to make the graduates familiar with the latest state of research in this area. The emphasis is put on the politological approach to this multidisciplinary specialization. Teaching is focused on the relationship between the globalization and languages, on the role of international languages, on the language factor in the process of creating national identities, on the language education policy of national states and on the comparison of problem issues in language policies of individual countries. The second, and larger, part of the course deals with the language problem issues in the European Union and, mainly, in Central Europe. The course is completed with a final test.

3. Sociolinguistic situation in Europe.
4. Language policy of the EU institutions.
5. The examples of language policies in the North and Western Europe (Finland, Belgium, the United Kingdom, France, Spain)
6. Language policies of the post-Soviet space of Eastern Europe.
7. Language policies on the Balkan peninsula (Greece, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Macedonia, Serbia, Romania).
8. Historical role of German language in Central Europe.
9. Language policies in Central Europe (Germany, Austria, Hungaria, Poland, Slovenia, Croatia).
10. Language policy in Slovakia (history and presence).
11. The history of language policy in Czech lands.
12. Language policy in the Czech Republic.
