- Course objectives
- The course aims to provide students with the knowledge base of general psychology and personality psychology. Students will learn the basic concepts used in the characterization of individual mental processes, mental states, mental characteristics of man and the methods of psychological research. They obtain information about the personality cognitive system (perception, memory, attention, imagination, fantasy, thinking, intelligence, emotions, etc.). They will be able to apply knowledge related to exogenous and endogenous theory of personality typology, temperament and activation and self-regulatory personality characteristics. The main objective of this course is to provide theoretical and practical basis for further studies and special disciplines of applied psychology, education, social work, social pathology and other related disciplines necessary for future counselling staff of helping professions, especially in the field of educational care for the elderly.
- Learning outcomes
- Professional knowledge: Students acquire and demonstrate knowledge of basic psychological terms, they can characterize the essential features of individual mental processes, states and characteristics of the individual, understand the rules and conditionality of cognitive processes such as perception, thinking, memory, speech, communication etc. They demonstrate knowledge of peculiarities in emotional and volitional realms of man (especially during ageing and old age). They will demonstrate knowledge of basic theories of personality, will be able to characterize the essential determinants of personality formation, in particular the role of biological and social factors. Students will be able to understand the problems of the structure and dynamics of personality, they will learn to understand the personality in its individual components (such as how to motivate personality and stimulate its development). They will be able to understand, analyze, evaluate and interpret the behaviour and experience of human personality.
Professional skills: Students are well versed in various theories of personality and use the acquired knowledge working with clients with an emphasis on the individual during ageing and old age. They are familiar with the relevant literature of the discipline, can locate, interpret and apply the gained information in counselling work with the elderly in practice. They are able to integrate the acquired knowledge with the needs of the practice as part of the degree programme. The can apply biological, social and personal determinants in shaping and formation of human personality (with emphasis on the behaviour and experience of ageing and old people). Students can perceive the significance of biological and social determinants in the process of formation of personality with potential risk of social pathology.
General qualification: By completing the course, students will be competent to not only use their knowledge and skills in specific work with clients (especially during ageing and old age), but also to cooperate adequately and professionally in counselling, working and expert teams. Their acquired competence is the ability to apply acquired knowledge, skills and abilities in daily lives of the clients, including to solve their current problems. Students will acquire a critical approach to the presented methods and will be able to reflect and analysis their own work actively. Through methods used in the course instruction, development of critical thinking, creativity and competence to make decisions professionally, correctly, independently and responsibly are promoted in the students. - Syllabus

- According to the assignment, students will complete at least 2 correspondence tasks from the study support. COMBINED TEST FORM: The student must pass a 70% short orientation test, then proceed to the oral exam.
