The aim is to get acquainted with the diverse design of qualitative and quantitative research. The discipline will be thematically structured in this way:

  • Social research strategies Theory and research, research designs and planing a research project
  • Designing the study and getting started Choosing the topic, reviewing the literature, developing a conceptual framework, formulating research questions, designing the study
  • Choosing the right quantitative approach(es) The nature of quantitative research, structured interviewing, structured observation, content analysis
  • Choosing the right qualitative approach(es) Ethnography, Grounded Theory, Case Study Analysis, Narrative Approaches
  • Data collection Observation, interviewing and use of documents
  • Interviewing in qualitative research Focus groups, in-depth interview
  • Data analysis Theories and concepts in qualitative data analysis, varied approaches to coding
  • Mixed methods research: combining quantitative and qualitative research
