- Course objectives
- The course objective is to gain knowledge and skills in the field of processes for the implementation of information systems in health care. The course provides information on computer support issues in health care, puts emphasis on standardization and normalization of data, legislative regulations, description of communication interfaces, security and data protection, and interoperability of information systems in health care. Having completed the course, students will have gained knowledge of the development, implementation and support of large-scale IT systems in health care. They will also be able to apply theoretical and practical knowledge to analyze issues related to computerization of health care in accordance with legislative measures.
- Learning outcomes
- Professional Knowledge: Having completed the course, students are able to independently and actively seek and use the tools and procedures that make their proper use of information and communication technologies in the study and medical practice easier. They learn to understand the current trends in ICT and processed information published in the national health registers professionally.
Professional Skills: Using the expertise of ICT, students are able to make good use of technology in health care and in managing electronic documents.
General Qualification: Students are able to independently decide which ICT to use in practice.
Competences: Students manage information systems in health care on the firld of registers, documents and new technologies effectively with regard to both the protection of personal data and the veracity of the data. They gain a general overview of the benefits of the information society in healthcare in compliance with legal conditions. - Syllabus
- 1. Introduction, setting objectives and presenting content of the course, familiarization with the literature and sources, defining basic concepts and contexts.
- 2. Data, information, legislation and standards in the implementation of IS.
- 3. Information resources (tools for information access, search strategies, validity). Medical information technologies and their tools (best practices, standards and quality of information).
- 4. Information and communication technologies in healthcare.
- 5. Comparison of introducing eHealth in the Czech Republic and in the EU countries. National registries and information systems in healthcare.

- Credit requirements: 80% attendance at the training (students who could not attend compulsory instruction for serious reasons will be assigned an alternative way of fulfilling their study requirements).
