- Course objectives
- The course is designed as theoretical-practical complex for general nurses. It informs on the importance of primary and secondary oncological prevention, on etiological and predisposition factors and on statistical prevalence of individual types of tumorous diseases. It familiarizes with differences and characters of centres for care and therapy of oncological patients. It provides information on individual clinical conditions with serious impact on quality of life of oncological patients and their families.
- Syllabus
- 1. Epidemiology of prevalence of malign diseases; risk factors (tobacco, alcohol, working environment, radiation, diet, viruses, drugs, etc.); tumour classification by tissue type.
2. Primary care: prevention and timely capture; timely warning signals of malign disease.
3. TNM system of tumour classification (invasion depth, spreading, size).
4. Secondary care: diagnostics and therapy of maligh diseases (operation, radiotherapy, chemotherapy).
5. Side effects of radiation therapy (acute and chronic) on individual body organs; chemotherapy, chemotherapeutics (classification types, main manifestations of side effects and toxicity).
6. Oncological acute conditions (hypercalcemia, disseminated intravascular coagulation, septic shock, spinal cord compression, pericardial tamponade, superior vena cara syndrome, tumor lysis syndrome, syndrome of malfunction of secretion of antidiuretic hormone).
7. Pain management for oncological patients.
8. Tertiary care, its organization and services according to needs of oncological patients (nursing institutes, hospices, home care).
9. Care for skin during radiation therapy; Changes in nutrition of oncological patients.
10. Nursing care for patient with changed immunity of organism, high risk of infection.
11. Nursing care for patient with alopecia, with changes on mucous membrane of oral cavity (after radiotherapy, chemotherapy).
12. Nursing care for patient after chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
13. Nursing care for patient with nausea and vomiting (during oncological therapy), with bleeding, with anemia.
14. Nursing care for patient with obstipation and diarrhoea (during oncological therapy), nursing care for patient with sexual dysfunction (during oncological therapy).

Information on the extent and intensity of the course: Seminář 3 HOD/SEM, Seminář 2 HOD/SEM. - Teacher's information
- The contact instruction is implemented through the system of tutorials on selected topics. The combined part of the studies is implemented in the e-learning course environment at e-portal http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. The students have study supports including correspondence tasks available for instruction there. The course is concluded by a credit in written or oral form; within it, the student will demonstrate knowledge of basic and recommended reading and be able to discuss the processed correspondence tasks. The student will have opportunity to consult individually the topics studied, through individual or group tutorials or electronic mail.
The condition of awarding of credit is compulsory attendance to lessons, with minimally 80% attendance; the teacher will specify substitutive way of fulfilment of study duties to students who cannot attend compulsory lessons for serious reasons.
Meeting of criteria of credit test, presentation of selected topic.
Exam requirements: written test, cut-off score 80%.
