Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to bring the student closer to the current concept of special education diagnostics, as an important and elementary tool of intervention activities of a special education teacher. Special pedagogical diagnosis is part of intervention activities and is also accompanied by the process of counseling, diagnosis and intervention. The subject includes not only theoretical regularities and information regarding current diagnostic strategies in special pedagogy and counseling, but also practical knowledge.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- acquire basic knowledge of special pedagogical diagnostics,
- master the basic methods and techniques of special education diagnostics,
- be able to use the intervention provided in families,
- be able to use the intervention provided in the educational process,
- be able to use the intervention implemented in schools and school facilities.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to issues, terminological apparatus. (Subtopics: Strategy of the educational policy of the Czech Republic until 2030+).
  • Special education diagnostics: definition, meaning, principles, requirements, classification. (Subtopics: complex pedagogical diagnostics, the importance of diagnostics).
  • Special education diagnostics: methods and techniques, typology, administration, multidisciplinary cooperation. (Subtopics: observation, case report).
  • Special educational diagnosis: content and process aspects in relation to the typology of special educational needs. (Subtopics: specifics of special pedagogical diagnostics in preschool age, specifics of special pedagogical diagnostics in school age).
  • Special educational counseling: definition, meaning, principles, requirements, classification. (Subtopics: strategies for engaging pupils with special educational needs in teaching).
  • Special educational counseling: methods and techniques, typology, phases, risks, requirements.
  • Special educational counseling: theoretical concepts, typologies, content and process aspects.
  • Special educational counseling: provided at school, in school facilities.
  • Special educational intervention: definition, meaning, principles, requirements, classification. (Subtopics: special education diagnosis of specific learning disorders and intervention).
  • Special educational intervention: procedures, forms, methods and techniques.
  • Special educational intervention: provided to families, implemented in a family environment. (Subtopics: suggestions for successful work with parents).
  • Special educational intervention: provided in the education process, implemented at school and in school facilities. (Subtopics: support measures - teaching assistant).
