- The goal of the course is to acquaint students with the economic policy of the Czech Republic since the end of the 80th years to the present. In this course, students will be given an insight into the economic reality of Czechoslovakia before 1989 and they will be familiarized with the nature of the central planned economies and its application in Czechoslovakia after Second World War, including the positives end negatives, as well as with the reform efforts of the then Czechoslovakia and its neighbouring countries - Poland and Hungary. Considerable attention will be paid to transition processes in the economy, both in general terms and in specific Czech (Czechoslovak) terms and successes and failures of Czech economy during its transition from a centrally planned economy to a market economy will be widely discussed. Attention will be also paid to the further development of the Czech economy after transition to a market economy, which was completed by the adoption of the Czech Republic to the EU. The current economic situation in the Czech Republic will be also discussed. The focus is to deepen students' knowledge of Czech life and institutions. On this basis, within the framework of seminars, the discussion on existing or possible future development of the Czech economy, as well as its advantage and disadvantage and reform efforts, should develop.
