Course objectives
The course is designed to acquaint students with basic concepts of computer science, human-computer interface and interaction, work with a text editor and presentation software.
Syllabus
  • 1. A brief history of computer science. The basic principles of creating, storing and exchanging information using computer technology. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and their usage in company.
    2. Software. System and application software equipment. Hardware. Computer architecture.
    3. Internet. Security considerations when using the Internet. Electronic mail. social media. Cloud Computing.
    4. Operating system Windows. Windows Explorer. Files management. Control panels. User and system settings.
    5. Protecting computers in a computer network. Precautions working with computers. Anti-virus software.
    6. Introduction to office applications. Commercial and open source products. Text editors.
    7. Text document. MS Office Word text, paragraphs, styles, numbering, sections, editing and proofreading tools. Print output settings.
    8. MS Office Word tables, calculations, graphic objects (images, charts), references, tracking changes, merging documents, mailings. Communication between applications.
    9. MS Office Word automation works with document. Macro recording and editing.
    10. Basics of creating presentations using MS PowerPoint and LibreOffice Impress.
    11. LibreOffice Writer - text, paragraphs, styles, numbering, sections, editing and proofreading tools. Print output settings.
    12. LibreOffice Writer tables, calculations, graphic objects (images, charts), references, tracking changes, merging documents, mailings. Communication between applications.
    13. Development trends of science and its usage in business and everyday life.
