- Course objectives
- Course objectives: The course acquaints students with the basic theoretical pieces of knowledge of financial planning and budgeting. The course objective is to acquaint the students with positives and problems of assembling of firms' financial plan. The course acquaints students with methods of evaluation of investment, assignment of planning cash flow and evaluation of financial resources for firms' financial policy.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to financial planning
Definition of financial planning, its definition from the perspective of financial management of the enterprise. Definition of financial analysis methods and their practical application in financial planning. The background to financial planning. Objectives of financial planning. Form and most common errors in financial planning.
2. Strategic planning
Definition of strategic planning. Requirements and development of a strategic plan. Steps in the development of a strategic financial plan. Mission and objectives of the company. Strategy in business activities. Criteria for selecting strategies and their impact on the financial plan. Components of the financial plan. Methods of strategic planning.
3. Short-term financial planning
Definition of short-term planning. Distinction between operational planning and strategic planning. The position of operational planning in the financial planning process. Structure of the short-term financial plan. Short-term liquidity forecast. BSC and EVA in the financial plan
4. Investment plan - methods of investment evaluation and their influence on the sources of financing
Determining cash flows from planned investment projects. Options for evaluating investment plans. Investment appraisal methods - NPV, IRR, payback period method. Financing options for investment projects and their influence on determining cash flow from the project. BSC and EVA in the financial plan.
5. Plan profit and loss account and plan balance sheet
Revenue planning methods - aggregated and disaggregated. Advantages and disadvantages of each method. Cost plan - methods. Material and energy consumption plan. Personnel cost plan. Depreciation plan. Other cost plan. Profit and loss planning and the plan for the disposal of the generated profit and loss.Definition of the plan balance sheet and its position in the management process. Methods of financial balance sheet planning - percentage of sales method, regression method, turnover ratio method. Schedule of items not directly related to sales - determining the need for fixed assets and sources of financing. Determination of income and expenditure in the enterprise.
6. Application of financial planning methods in business practice - case study on a specific company.
Creation of an investment plan and its evaluation using selected methods. Evaluation of different types of financing of the investment plan. Application of methods in profit and loss planning. Application of methods in planning the balance sheet of a specific company.
