Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic concepts of information management such as data, information and knowledge in the context of information and knowledge society. The course is also focused on trends in information and knowledge management.
Syllabus
  • 1. Information management
    Historical development. The difference between the earlier and contemporary concepts. Defining of information management. Information management and its tasks. Role of information manager. Information management methods. Information Society.
    2. Data, information and knowledge
    Data. Information. Knowledge. Information literacy. Asymmetry of information. Complete and perfect information.
    3. Information support
    Information support for management and marketing. Information support for management of production and logistics processes. Information support for crisis management. Information services. Communication.
    4. Documents
    Types of documents. Identification of documents. Working with documents. Location of Objects .
    5. Sources of information, acquisition, searching and managing of information
    Sources of information (libraries, archives, museums, galleries, information centers and centers, database centers, special institutions, electronic information sources). Getting information. Searching information on the Internet (search engines, web usability). Managing information.
    6. Organizational information strategies, ICT management models and information systems in organizations.
    Methodologies and models of ICT management. ISO Standards. Information systems in organizations. Information audit.
    7. ICT and innovation as a boost to improving business performance
    Corporate Performance Management (CPM). Business Intelligence (BI)
    8. Trends in current information management.
    Mobility and ubiquitous connectivity. Big Data. Social media. Cloud computing. ICT as a consumer thing. Artificial intelligence

Assessment methods
Requirements for the student: minimum 50 % attendance at seminars, preparation and presentation of seminar work, involvement in project teaching. Evaluation methods: preparation of seminar work (30 % evaluation), involvement in project teaching (30 % evaluation), written examination (40 % evaluation).
