Course objectives
The aim of this proseminar is to familiarize students with the history and connections between different mathematical disciplines, which students will meet during their studies. At the same time we will talk about open problems and challenges of contemporary mathematics.
Syllabus
  • The Seminar will be devoted to various mathematical disciplines, which students will meet during their studies to a greater or lesser extent, and connections between them, both from a historical perspective and also from the perspective of contemporary modern science. Students will learn how and why complex numbers have developed and get a brief introduction to topology. We'll talk about infinite sets,
    and infinite sums, about the Pythagorean theorem and its connections with the university mathematics, about fractals and chaos, about solving a 5th degree polynomial equation and group theory, of graph theory, a non-Euclidean geometry, the history of the calculus e discovery and number theory and coding.
