Course objectives
Give a brief overview of the history, theory, methodology and practical use of information retrieval languages (IRL) - systematic and subject. Gain awareness of the use of systematic and subject retrieval languages in library and information practice. The content of the course leads from a general knowledge of IRL to an understanding of the factual description of the organization of information in the Internet. The aim is also to master systematic and subject IRL practically. The content of the seminar is based on and follows the content of the lecture IRL.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- identify and specify the basic theoretical principles of information retrieval languages (IRL);
- identify and describe the classification and use of IRL in practice;
- compare and characterize the contact and different elements of individual types of IRL;
- practically apply systematic and subject IRL.

  • Introductory information on the factual processing of documents and information
  • Systems and their processes - characteristics of information system, information analysis, relations of terms document and information
  • Information retrieval alnguages (IRL)
  • Basics of IRL in logic and semiotics
  • Systematic IRL - theory, history, methodology
  • History of systematic IRLs
  • Significant systematic IRL used in practice
  • Examples of subject IRL
  • Factual description of the organization of information in the Internet
