Course objectives

The aim of the exercise is to work with an Italian text, corresponding to the acquired knowledge and skills of the students. Along with the use of vocabularies, the exercise are focused on the analysis of the original text and the determination of linguistic phenomena that systemically differ Italian from the mother tongue potentially problematic when translating from Italian to Czech (differences in sentence structure, occurrence and translation of non-finite verb forms, meaning and use of the conditional and subjunctive, etc.). The aim of the exercise is a confrontational view of Italian and Czech and the acquisition of basic knowledge applicable to the conversion from the source language to the target language, as well as to strengthen the ability to use various types of dictionaries, including computer dictionaries. Students continuously submit consulted and computer-prepared versions of translations.

Learning outcomes
Systematic work with a dictionary when working with thematically different text.
