Course objectives
The course deals with the main problems of Italian lexicology, semantics and lexicography. The lectures are dedicated to the structure of Italian lexicon, its origin and enrichment (by the means of derivation, composition and foreign borrowings). Italian linguistic material is used in order to illustrate various types of words (synonyms, antonyms, homonyms etc.). A special stress will be put on the importance of research in lexicology for the quality of the lexicographical production (characteristic features of main Italian vocabularies).
Learning outcomes
Student are familiar with the lexicological terminology, they are able to work with monolingual dictionaries, they have a general knowledge of the word formation and the stratification of lexikon within Italian language.
