Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with an insight into German history, political system, cultural and social life and art. In the field of history, the subject focuses on the most important historical epochs, events and personalities.
Learning outcomes
The student is able to identify and describe the most important historical epochs, events and personalities from German history. The student is able to identify and summarize the basic features of the German political system, cultural and social life.
Syllabus
  • 1. Geography of Germany 2. The population of Germany 3. History I (1871–1918): From the founding of modern Germany to the end of the First World War 4. History II (1918˗1945): Weimar Republic, Hitler's dictatorship, World War II 5. History III (1945˗1989): Post-war period, division of Germany and the year 1968 6. History IV (1989˗day): The reunification of Germany and the Republic of Berlin 7. The Länder and the capital Berlin 8. History and regions of Germany as a subject of marketing (teaching in the form of project simulation) 9. German economy and its significance for the EU 10. Political system 11. Culture, traditions and folklore in Germany 12. Presentation of Germany as a tourist destination (on the example of Leipzig) and multimedia homeland studies (websites, virtual museums, youtube, facebook, etc.) 13. Summary and exercises
