- Course objectives
- The aim of this class is an introduction into the analysis and interpretation of short nonficitonal and fiction texts in prose, in particular into the most important stylistic and linguistic elements of both (groups of) genres. I shall start here from short literary texts, including experimental examples which may seem strange at first sight. The class is based on 'learning by doing', that is, analysis and interpretation of texts is learnt at best by productive adaption of these genres of scholarly writing.

- Orientation in the contemporary English literature of various genres. The skill of critical analysis of literary texts.
- Syllabus
- 1.–4. Poetry analysis (introduction to the issue, terminology, tools, work with specific texts)
- 5.–8. Analysis of epic texts (introduction to the issue, terminology, tools, work with specific texts)
- 9.–12. Drama analysis (introduction to the issue, terminology, tools, work with specific texts)
- 13. Final discussion and summary
