Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to acquaint students with the specifics of museum and gallery presentation in comparison with the presentation standards of manor houses and their development. The seminar will clarify the regularities of the composition of museum presentation forms in relation to manor house interior installations and with regard to current trends. Attention is focused on the definition of a interior installation in relation to a museum and gallery presentation, their comparison, differentiation and mutual combinations (a country house interior installation authentic, artificial or indicative, with museum and gallery elements). The teaching method is based mainly on practical examples of selected memory institutions - museums, galleries and manor houses in the Czech Republic or abroad. The seminar will cover four general subjects:
1. Manor houses – history and present.
2. Museum presentation.
3. Gallery presentation.
4. Interior installations in manor houses.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- explain the specifics of various forms of presentation - museum and gallery exhibitions and expositions, country houses interior installations;
- describe the procedure for creating an exhibition or exposition in a museum or gallery, or interior installation on a sightseeing tour of a country house;
- critically evaluate already realized expositions and exhibitions in museums and galleries, interior installations on sightseeing tour of country houses;
- apply the acquired knowledge in practice.

  • 1. Museums, galleries, installed objects - introduction. 2. Country houses as a historical source. 3. Country houses and their access to the public from the beginning of the 19th century to the Second World War. 4. Country houses and their access to the public from the post-war period to the present. 5. Typology of Installed Monuments I - castle and chateau (country houses). 6. Typology of Installed Monuments II - villa, memorial room and buildings of folk architecture. 7. Typology of Installed Monuments III - church, monastery and hospital. 8. Historical environment versus exhibitions of contemporary art. 9. Country house interior installation and museum presentation. 10. Country house interior installation and gallery presentation. 11. Typology of a country house interior installation. 12. Specialized exhibition projects on monuments. 13. Specifics of presentation of installed country houses.
