Basic knowledge in the field of protection and documentation of natural heritage (nature and landscape) on a regional and global scale, problems of natural heritage protection and knowledge needed to understand the issue of nature and landscape protection.

Course objectives
The subject includes the interpretation of protection and documentation of natural heritage (nature and landscape) on a regional and global scale. Using the example of specific problems of natural heritage protection, the seminar will convey the basic knowledge and skills needed to understand the issue of nature and landscape protection.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge in the following areas: 1. Philosophical and ethical principles of nature protection. 2. History of nature and landscape protection in the world and in the Czech Republic. 3. The relationship between natural heritage protection and monument care. 4. Biological diversity and its assessment. 5. Main factors threatening biological diversity and causes of species extinction. 6. Species and territorial protection of nature in the Czech Republic. Legislative security of nature and landscape protection in the Czech Republic. 7. Documentation and monitoring of the state and threats to biological diversity. 8. International programs, agreements and monitoring organizations. Ecological networks within Europe and the Natura 2000 program. 9. Global and regional priorities for natural heritage protection. Red lists and books of endangered species. 10. Management of natural heritage protection. Tourism and natural heritage. 11. Natural and cultural heritage of UNESCO. 12. Protection of natural heritage and sustainable development. 13. Involvement of communities in planning for the management and protection of natural heritage.
