- Course objectives
- The one-semester seminar course will focus on the introduction of basic problem areas related to the history of the Czech lands in the Middle Ages. Current issues and trends in contemporary medievalist research will be taken into account, such as the problem of the so-called Central European model, disputes over the Kosmas´s image of the Czech state, the question of the origin of the Czech nobility or the issue of the ideal ruler in medieval thought. Attention will also be paid to the issue of the Hussites, its genesis and modern interpretations, as well as debates on the state model of government. Students will be acquainted with the areas outlined above on the basis of work with literature and preserved sources. Emphasis will be placed primarily on independent analysis and work with sources.
