Course objectives
The course focuses on the conceptual modeling of the database and advanced database technologies, like distributed database systems and data warehouses for decision-making systems. The aim is to understand these technologies, their theoretical principles, application possibilities, design and implementation in the praxis.
Learning outcomes
The student will master the issue of the advanced database technologies, data fragmentation, data warehouses and implementation of these technologies in the praxis.

  • 1. Conceptual database modeling: entity-relationship model
  • 2. Conceptual database modeling: semantic models and anchor modeling
  • 3. Distributed data systems: architecture, data replication, data fragmentation, data allocation
  • 4. Classification of the information systems, OLTP and OLAP technologies
  • 5. Basis of the data warehouses (DW)
  • 6. DW environment, DW architecture
  • 7. DW: data models, using types of data schemas
  • 8. DW: multidimensional views of the data, their creation and description
  • 9. DW: internal data models
  • 10. Recent progress in the DW topic
