Course objectives
Two semesters of Latin go back to the roots of the Italian language and other roman languages with the aim to explain the linguistic system of classical Latin focusing on the morphology. The course is dedicated especially to the present tense and the inflexion of the nouns, adjectives and pronouns. Besides exercises short Latin texts of ancient classical authors are read (Caesar, Cicero, Cornelius Nepos, Sallustius, Livius).

  • 1. Basic terms, bibliography, pronunciation, duration, accent
    2. Nouns, I declination, verbs, 1 and 2 conjugation of the present indicative
    3. Nouns, II declination, adjective I and II declination, adverbs, 3 conjugation
    4. verbs, 4 conjugation in the present tense, personal pronouns
    5. Verb esse and compounds, deponent verbs
    6. Imperfect indicative and future I of the verb esse
    7. Nouns, III declination, first part
    8. Nouns, III declination, second part
    9. Adjectives III declination, adverbs, present active participle
    10. Imperfect indicative of all conjugations
    11. Nouns, IV and V declination
    12. Deponent verbs, revision and summary
