- Course objectives
- The course focuses on the history of the German and Austrian film in the 20th century. The introduction will describe the subject, which is not only history, but also the cultural and critical dimension and function of films in their specific social context. This will be reflected via selected examples of important German and Austrian films. After each presentation of a film, there will be an analysis and a discussion of its most important aspects. From expressionism (M - Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder) to the present problems of migration (Gegen die Wand), different important topics will be discussed.
