Course objectives
Lectures History of World Cinema is provides students to the history of world cinema in the period from 1945 to the present. The lecture is trying to introduce students to the aesthetic plane and biographical history of cinema. Students will learn about an important period film, leading directors and major films. The seminar continues to lecture on the history of world cinema and introduces students to significant works of film, which was shot from the end of the Second World War.
Syllabus
  • The lecture:
    1. Film after World War II, Italian neorealism, Italian cinema in the 1960s (De Sica, Zavattini, Rossellini, Visconti, Pasolini, Antonioni, Fellini).
    2. French cinema since 1945 (Tati, Bresson). French New Wave (Godard, Resnais, Truffaut).
    3. Spirituality in the film, Ingmar Bergman.
    4, Film after World War II in Central and Eastern Europe.
    5. American film after World War II in the 1950s and 1960s (Wilder, Hitchcock).
    6. The British Free Cinema movement (Anderson).
    7. Cinema of the USA since the 1970s to the present (Kubrick, Altman, Scorsese, Coppola, Spielberg, Forman, Polanski, Allen, Lynch, Tarantino). American independent cinema (Jarmusch, the Coen brothers).
    8. European cinema (Bu?uel, Saura, Almodóvar, Herzog, Wenders, Schlöndorff, Kaurismäki, Trier, Greenaway).
    9. Cinematography of Eastern Europe since the 1970s to the present.
    10. Asian cinema (Kurosawa).
