- Course objectives
- During the lectures, students learn the basics of individual geological disciplines useful for archaeological works and regional description of geological units at the Northern Moravia and Upper Silesia (with emphasis on the area of Opava and the Odra Gate). Terrain excursions and exercises will be an important part of the subject.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to petrology (processes, genesis of rocks, primary sorting, typical recognition characters. Exploitation of rocks, stone raw materials.
2. Regional Geology of the Northern Moravia and Upper Silesia.
3. Geological time - division of individual periods, more detailed about periods, which influenced the evolution of rocks and the region at the Northern Moravia and Upper Silesia.
4. Quaternary Stratigraphy - detailed division of Pleistocene and Holocene periods, context with development of human cultures.
5. Basics of Quaternary Geology - deposition and types of Quaternary sediments, the phenomena of continental glaciations.
6. Basics of Pedology - types of soils, typical characters and their "reading".
7. Work with map sources, their availability and suitability.
8. Overview of terrain and laboratory methods.
9. Field excursions and exercises.
