Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint the students not only with the basic principles of dramatic text and theatre art, but also with DRAMA as the THEATRE TYPE, where the two phenomenons from the title of the course are inextricably linked; they really cannot be understood elementally without the recognizing and realizing of their correlation. Attention will be also paid to other theatre components and their mutual relationship. An integral part of the course is a presentation of crucial personalities, works and events of theatre history, too.

  • 1. The idea of drama and its changes in the changes of epochs.
  • 2. The concept of theatre art and its changes.
  • 3. The concept of drama.
  • 4. Drama genres and their essence.
  • 5. The form of a dramatic text. Characteristic features of drama.
  • 6. Dramatic text between other theatrical components.
  • 7. Performing on the stage. The inscenation and the performance.
  • 8. The two traditions of European drama.
  • 9. Dialogue (and monologue) in a dramatic text.
  • 10. Situation and plot. Drama construction.
  • 11. dramaturgy as a profession.
  • 12. Space and time in drama and in theatre.
  • 13. Character, person, role, actor (summary).
