- Course objectives
- The goal of the course is to confront some important parts of physics and philosophy and demonstrate connections to art.
- Syllabus
- Materialism versus idealism. Relation of material and spiritual principles.
Rationalism versus empirism in modern philosophy, Descartes, Hume, Kant, logical empirism, Popper.
Mathematical axioms and physical fundaments (non-Euclidean geometry, application of non-Euclidean geometry in physics).
Mathematics and art: golden section, projective geometry, application in renesance and modern art, hidden dimensions.
Symmetry in physics and art (basic invariance of physical laws, crystalic structure of matter - symmetry and imagination of beauty, Escher).
Newtonian physics and its influence on the art.
Relativity and its reflection in the art.
Determinism and chaos, deterministic chaos, reflection in modern painting.
