- Course objectives
- The lecture provides an overview of the history of the Czech lands in a chronological-topical structure (Crown; individual countries – Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia, both Lusatia) in the 16th to 18th centuries in the context of the history of the Habsburg Danube Monarchy and international relationships. Orients in basic terms, periodization; represents key problem areas of development taking into account specific features of the history of the given period (status, confederation movement, modernization, bureaucratization, centralism, absolutism, confessional struggles, provincial estate separatism); reminds of the role of Czech countries in European politics and military battles and contributes to the understanding of the role of the Habsburg Monarchy in the context of the history of early modern Europe. The seminar introduces the basic literature and source editions for the given period; highlights key types written, iconographic and material sources; on selected topics from Czech history in the Central European context indicates the methods and procedures of research on early modern issues.

- 1. Introduction, periodization, terminology, methodological approaches, sources, literature. 2. Territorial administrative aspects of the development of the Czech lands and Central Europe in the early modern period. 3. Czech lands in the context of the development of the Habsburg monarchy in the pre-White Mountain period. 4. Political system of the Czech pre-White Mountain state. 5. Economic and social conditions of the Czech lands in the pre-White Mountain period. 6. Religious and cultural aspects of development in the pre-White Mountain period. 7. Estate uprising, its defeat and consequences (OZZ, confiscation), specific conditions in neighboring countries. 8. The Thirty Years' War: milestones, events, personalities, effects on the Czech lands and Central Europe. 9. Changes in the political and religious conditions of the Czech lands in the Alpine period; building a sovereign absolutism. 10. Economic and social aspects of the development of the Czech lands in the second half of the 17th and 18th centuries. 11. Czech lands in the context of the development of the Habsburg monarchy after the Thirty Years' War and in the 18th century. 12. Teresian period; war of Habsburg succession. 13. Josephinism. Study literature and studies after the early modern period.
