Course objectives
The series of lectures will offer students comprehensive information about the basic milestones of the development of historiography. Attention will be paid to the most important personalities, works, concepts and thoughts of pre-scientific historiography and modern historiography, from the period of antiquity to the present. Historiography with an emphasis on European history will be presented in connection with the development of philosophical thinking in different periods. Understanding the emancipation of pre-scientific history from mythological thinking and the birth of modern historiography on the threshold of the 19th century is emphasized. Students are lead to perception of the ambiguity (historicity) of contemporary professional thinking about history.
Learning outcomes
Understanding the development of historiography from mythology to pre-modern historiography and subsequently to modern professional historiography. Introduction to the most important personalities, works, concepts and thought currents of pre-scientific historiography and modern historiography, from the period of antiquity to the present.
