- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to continue in comprehensive baseline survey of knowledge necessary for the study of astrophysics, which were started in the first semestr.
- Syllabus
- 1. The constellation of the spring and summer sky.
2. Planets of the Solar System and their moons. Inner and outer planets, Kuiper belt.
3. Comets and meteors. Periodic comets, Oort cloud, Comet composition and structure; main meteor showers, meteor observations, meteorites.
4. Eclipse of the Sun and Moon, optical phenomena in the atmosphere.
5. Stars I. Star formation, hydrostatic equilibrium, sources of energy in stars, nuclear nucleosynthesis.
6. Stars II. Stage of star development main sequence, red giant, white dwarf, neutron star, black hole; pulsars, magnetars.
7. Variables stars, supernovae. eclipsing binary stars; physical variables: pulsating (RR Lyr, mirides), eruptive novae, supernovae.
8. Galaxy. Hubble classification spiral, elliptical, irregular; rotation curves of spiral galaxies, dark matter; spiral arms of the dense wave; Tully-Fisher's formulae, Faber-Jackson formulae; galactic centers, active galaxies.
9. Measure distances in space. Distance ladder, standard candles, SN Ia, etc.
10. Cosmology I. Basic OTR concepts, Copernicus principle, FLRW models, observational parameters, Hubble law, cosmological constant vacuum energy, dark energy.
11. Cosmology II. Big Bang theory of thermal history, primordial nucleosynthesis, backround radiation; standard model issues, inflation.
