Course objectives
Funeral rites and the treatment of dead human bodies is one of the problems whose solution is mainly involved in archeology beneficial close interrelationship with the history and anthropology. One-semester course introduces students to the ways of burying the dead and the treatment of human bodies in eighteen centuries AD, especially in Moravia and Bohemia, but with regard to neighboring countries. In cases where it appeared to be possible and practical, they are also used analogies and examples from other parts of Europe. Above all, the point is to provide students with sufficient analogies and sources for the interpretation of phenomena collected during field research. Corpse of man has symbolic significance and embodies ideas that influenced the way of dealing with them. From this perspective, the design and content of the subject. First, students are familiarized with the main trends of this phenomenon in historical sequence. It is paid to details of the funeral rites according to social class, age, gender, ethnicity and religious affiliation. The following part devoted to specific methods of handling dead bodies.

  • 1. Úvod a vymezení problematiky.
    2. Hlavní trendy v pohřebním ritu od 1. do 12. stol.
    3. Hlavní trendy v pohřebním ritu od 13. do 18. stol.
    4. Křesťanský pohřební ritus a jeho proměny.
    5. Zvláštnosti pohřebního ritu podle sociálního postavení (panovníci, velmoži, kupci, řemeslníci a obyvatelé měst, duchovní).
    6. Zvláštnosti pohřebního ritu podle věku, pohlaví a etnicity.
    7. Zvláštnosti pohřebního ritu podle náboženské příslušnosti (křesťané, heretici, židé, jinověrci za reformace).
    8. Zvláštní způsoby zacházení s mrtvými těly (oběti kriminálních činů, genocida, epidemie, válečné situace, delikventi, sebevrazi).
    9. Protivampyrická opatření.
    10. Druhotné pohřby (amulety, relikvie).
    11. Lidské oběti. Zdánlivě mrtví.
    12. Vylupování hrobů.
