- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge of digital technology. The course is designed as a preliminary course for other courses which are build on practical knowledges of digital techniques, including: Converters analog and digital signals, measurement systems, PC applications measuring system with a PC etc. Requirements on students: 75% attendence in seminars, active participation Elaboration of seminar papers from exercise. Successful completion of a written and oral examination (two questions be drawn). Content: Description of the measuring chain. Pre-processing of signals. Role of transmitters in the system of measurement and data collection (DACQ). Principles transfer, basic concepts: quantization step, quantization level, the number of quantization levels, bit width, range, resolution, accuracy converter. Types of codes used. Converter error: error conversion slope, nonlinearity, monotony , hysteresis. Noise Converter: signal/noise ratio, the effective number of bits. Dynamic characteristics: switching time, settling time. Digital to analog converters. Parallel converters: the current and voltage output with switchable networks (weighting resistors, resistor networks combined, resistor network type T) with switchable current sources (with inverted R-2R network with cyclic substitution resistor) converters with functional outcome. Serial converters. Converters with indirect transfer. Analog to digital converters. Discretization and quantization. Parallel comparative converters. Converters with progressive comparisons. Compensation converters: tracking, successive approximation, with equalization charge. Integration converters. Special converters. Frequency to voltage converter: converter with MKO and reference source, quartz transducers, transmitters without reference source. Using the A/D and D/A converter in a special microchip.
