- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquaint with the beginnings of cinema, with the period of early cinema, the advent of sound film until 1945. This is to provide a basic overview of world cinema of the period. Students will become familiar with the different period, as well as leading personalities of filmmaking and film major parts specified period. The seminar continues to lecture on the history of world cinema and introduces students to significant works of film, which was shot by the end of the Second World War.

- Lecture:
1. The birth of cinema, technique and effects.
2. Early film in Europe.
3. The beginnings of Hollywood.
4. Scandinavian cinema, German Expressionism, French Impressionism, The Soviet Montage movement.
5. The beginnings of the sound film.
6. The classical Hollywood cinema in the 1930s.
7. Poetic realism: French cinema in the 1930s, German, Italian and British cinema in the 1930s. Soviet cinema in the 1930s.
8. Cinema during World War II.
