Course objectives
The course is dedicated to the influence of Italian cultural traditions on European culture since the 13th century. The seminar completes the knowledge achieved in the course called Italian history and culture. It presents the most important personalities in the fields of art, architecture and music. The course is divided in two semesters.
Syllabus
  • 1. Cultural overview from the 3rd to the 1st century
    2. Influence of Italian Romanesque architecture and art in Central Europe
    3. Italian Gothic models in German and Czech art
    4. Influence of Italian Trecento in the music of Central Europe
    5. Historical reasons of the delayed development of the late Gothic period in the Czech lands
    6. The beginning of Renaissance in the Italian fine art.
    7. Renaissance influence beyond the Alps (France, Netherlands, Germany, Poland)
    8. Italian artists in the Czech lands
    9. European inspiration by Italian music
    10. Renaissance in the Czech lands during the reign of Rudolf II. and its Italian models
    11. Baroque in Italy
    12. Opera in Italy and its penetration to France, England and Germany
