- Course objectives
- Basic overview of the demographic development of European civilisation with a specific regard to the population of the Czech Lands: population processes in the past (with emphasis on the period until the demographic changeover), changes in distribution and social structure of the population. Monitoring of the individual as well as collective experience with the basic life situations such as birth, marriage, death, issues of family and household in a traditional society - European form of family, so called traditional model of family, all in the period social contexts. Familiarisation with the professional terminology and with the methods of historical demography. Work with particular sources and their practical application when exploring the history of population.

2. Overview of the population development I (paleodemography, pre-statistical period)
3. Overview of the population development II (proto-statistical period)
4. Overview of the population development III (demographical changeover, new demographical regime)
5. Marriage, marriage life and extramarital relations
6. Forms of European family and household (European Marriage System)
7. Fertility, birth-rate, problem of illegitimacy
8. Contraception (birth control), infanticide (infant homicide) ? changeover to birth control
9. Epidemic crises ? sickness rate ? manifestations of diseases
10. Death rate, children mortality phenomenon, increase of the life expectancy
11. Migration and geographic mobility of population
12. History of population thinking and theories
