- Course objectives
- Knowledges of a dramaturgical practice, orientation in problematics of dramaturgy in different types of theatre. The lecture provides basic terms and principles of a dramaturgical work in theatres, history of dramaturgy and its origin, focuses on position of dramaturgy both in theatrical structure and at birth of a theatre performance.
- Syllabus
- 1. What is dramaturgy? Definition. A brief glimpse into the historical development of dramaturgy, familiarization with its historical and contemporary forms,
2. Dramaturgy with consideration of various models of types of theatre operations. Types of theatre operations: repertory theatre, combination company, ensemble theatre, stagione
3. Creation of the dramaturgic plan. Schedule of opera staging preparations.
4. A dramatic text: obtaining information about dramas, working with theatre agencies, writers and translators. Copyright law.
5. Selection of dramatic text. Searching for appropriate writings for a creative team and cast.
6. Dramaturgy preparations of a play - reading a dramatic text, analysis (careful reading of a dramatic text; reflection on the author's world and style and the period context, motivic analysis, structural analysis, interpretation of the dramatic text) and interpretation (accentuating current themes in the text, shifts in the hierarchy of motifs, so that the work resonates as much as possible today).
7. The creating of a dramaturgy-directing concept and the literary work on a writing (abridging, translation revision, editing, adaptation, dramatization etc.)
8. Writing and editing all printed material: advertising slogans, production programs, material for press conferences.
9. Dramaturgy of festival (theatre, film, music, multigenre festival).
