- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to introduce students to selected questions, concepts, methods and literary schools in contemporary literary theory.
- Learning outcomes
- After graduation, the student will be able to: - describe the basic concepts and questions of contemporary literary theory - characterize individual literary schools and directions - apply knowledge of the theory of interpretation and philosophy of literature to fiction texts.
- Syllabus
- 1. Contexts of the birth of modern literature and literary theory. 2. What is literature, what is theory (many approaches). 3. Literature and communication - possibilities and limits. 4. Aesthetics of production - from the author's intention to the death of the author. 5. Aesthetics of the work - structure, fictional worlds, the event of meaning. 6. Aesthetics of reception - from the implicit reader to the pleasure of the text. 7. Literary history as a problem of the theory of literature. 8. The value of a literary work as a theoretical question. 9. Literary genre as a question of literary theory. 10. Rhetoric and stylistics in literary theory. 11. Literary hermeneutics - necessity and impossibility of the method. 12. What happens when we interpret? 13. Repetition of concepts.
