Course objectives
Grammar 1 is the first course in a series of courses on English grammar. It aims to provide an account of the English morphology, focusing on verbs, nouns, and pronouns.

  • 1. Introduction: a discourse perspective on grammar
    2. Verbs - verbal forms and the verb phrase
    3. Verbs - the primary auxiliaries - do, have, be
    4. Verbs - the modal auxiliaries
    5. Verbs - tense and aspect
    6. Verbs - mood and voice
    7. Nouns - number
    8. Nouns - gender and case
    9. Nouns - countability
    10. Pronouns - specific pronouns
    11. Pronouns - indefinite pronouns
    12. Revision

To pass the course, the students are required to achieve at least 70% in a written test based on Svoboda&Kučera (verbs, nouns, and pronouns) and the materials covered in the seminars.
