- Course objectives
- The seminar is focused on defining the concepts of ethnography, ethnology and the history of the scientific discipline, which is a prerequisite for understanding the methodology of the department. At the seminar, the student will get acquainted with the basic directions, personalities and works in the Central European context. Furthermore, the course is focused on the practical acquisition of knowledge in the form of exercises and work with the collection in the museum.

- 1. Definition of ethnography, ethnology and anthropology. 2. Descriptions of nations from antiquity to the late Middle Ages 3. Ethnic issues in the 16th century4. The contribution of discoverers and encyclopedists to the history of ethnology 5. Central European ethnography in the international context 6. Ethnography of the 17th and 18th centuries7. Development of science and personality in the 18th and 19th centuries8. Concepts of the 19th century from Slavic ethnography to folklore9. Period of ethnographic research. Folk culture. 10. From ethnography to ethnology - the second half of the 20th century11.-12. Ethnologist in the museum
