Course objectives
The seminar focuses on the analysis of the cultural heritage of the French Revolution and the Government of Napoleon Bonaparte, which influenced the development of European culture and found its response in many European countries. The focus is on: 1) material and immaterial cultural heritage, which was a product of French society in the period under review; 2) the historical cultural heritage of past centuries, which entered the service of the French revolutionary governments and the regime of Napoleon Bonaparte; 3) selected cultural monuments in European countries, created in connection with cultural influences or with reference to European events in Revolutionary and Napoleonic France.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- interpret the material and immaterial cultural heritage of the French Revolution and Napoleon's government;
- to summarize the specifics of the political development of the French Revolution and the First Empire in France;
- to analyze the phenomena, processes and trends of the observed epoch through work with translations or originals of historical sources and iconographic material.
