- A brief description of the lectured material The aim of the seminar is to acquaint students with the form of the stone chipped industry (ŠI) in the past with an emphasis on the region of the middle of Europe from the oldest periods (Early and Old Paleolithic) to the latest evidence of the practical use of chipped artefacts industry (production of chipped artefacts in the early Iron Age, modern flints for firearms - flints). We will focus mainly on the stone raw materials used for the production of chipped industry, the terminology used in the description SI, SI production technology and SI typology. Other methods used in SI analyzes will also be mentioned (traceology, electron microscopy, etc.). In addition to theoretical familiarization with the form and technology of production of the split industry, it will happen as part of the seminar, also for practical training in the analysis of the split industry on real artifacts.

- 1. Introduction to the course (conditions for passing the course, course outline, definition of SI, history of research, overview recommended literature) 2. Raw materials for the production of SI (overview of basic raw materials used in the Central European region) 3. Terminology used in the description of SI artifacts 4. Technology I – familiarization with basic technological terms, methods used in the production of chipped industry 5. Technology II – description of the basic techniques and technologies used in the production of chipped industry in the Middle Prehistory of Europe 6. The chipped industry of the Old and Middle Paleolithic. 7. The chipped industry of the Young and Late Paleolithic. 8. The chipped industry of the Mesolithic and Neolithic. 9. Chipped industry of the Eneolithic and older metallic (Bronze and Hallstatt ages) 10. Stone chipping in Europe from the Iron Age to the present and outside Europe (America, Asia, Australia). 11. Methods used for chipping industry analysis (traceology, SEM, etc.) 12. Documentation of the stone chipped industry. 13. Final summary, writing credit test
