Course objectives
The course provides a basic orientation in tourism issues for all, emphasizing accessibility issues in the field of cultural tourism/heritage. It defines the content and meaning of the terms accessible (barrier-free) tourism, social tourism, dimensions of accessibility and universal design. It focuses on demographic, legislative and other factors and criteria that influence the development of accessibility in the European, Central European and Czech regions, including the cross-border area. It characterizes the specific needs of individual groups of clients of accessible and social tourism in relation to service provision, principles of barrier-free use in buildings, requirements for adequate information service and education in the field of accessible travel and communication. It deals with mapping the accessibility of cultural heritage and the contribution of a unified methodological procedure in mapping objects, roads, routes, etc. It seeks to make students aware of possibilities to use cultural heritage effectively in the field of specific forms of tourism/accessible tourism for people with specific needs and requirements.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the subject, literature and information sources, basic terminology.
  • 2. Theoretical definition of accessible and social tourism.
  • 3. Dimensions of accessibility including the social aspect and the situation in the Czech Republic.
  • 4. Legislative framework of the issue from the point of view of the European Union and the Czech Republic.
  • 5. Specification of accessible tourism, clients. Demographic influences.
  • 6. Accessibility of a tourist destination with a focus on cultural heritage.
  • 7. Accessibility evaluation of accommodation, catering, leisure and other services and objects of cultural heritage.
  • 8. Presentation of cultural heritage offer based on accessibility principles.
  • 9. Special and compensatory aids and their importance in the process of presentation of cultural heritage.
  • 10. Principles of communication with clients with specific needs.
  • 11. Accessibility principles as part of the vision of the destination, institution and tourist facility.
  • 12. Methodology for implementing accessibility principles.
  • 13. Synthesis of issues and presentation of course outcomes.
