Course objectives
The course Practical Exercises 3 is the third in a series of language courses with the intention of systematically developing all language competences, ie grammar, vocabulary, writing, listening and speaking. The level of the textbook discussed corresponds to level B2-C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference. (English File Upper-intermediate 1-5)
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
Understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation
Interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party
Produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options
Syllabus
  • 1. Course introduction 2. (Unit 1) question formation, meaning from context, intonation; 3. (Unit 1) auxiliary verbs, compound adjectives, sentence rhythm 4. (Unit 2) present perfect simple and continuous, illness and injuries, pronunciation 5. (Unit 2) using adjectives as nouns, clothes and fashion, vowel sounds 6. (Unit 3) narrative tenses, air travel, irregular past forms 7. (Unit 3) position of adverbs, adverbial phrases, word stress 8. (Unit 4) future perfect, the environment, vowel sounds 9. (Unit 4) zero and first conditionals, expressions with TAKE, linked phrases 10. (Unit 5) unreal conditionals, feelings, word stress in adjectives 11. (Unit 5) wish for present/future, expressing feelings, sentence rhythm 12. Credit test
