Course objectives
Basic overviews of arts and crafts performances in the contexts of historical development, arranged in terms of content according to the basic material base of the origins of the creation and use of artefacts. Emphasis is placed on uncovering and understanding the place of applied art in the vast group of witnesses of the past.
Learning outcomes
A basic overview of the material, functional and artistic value of archeological artifacts.
Syllabus
  • 1. Artistic crafts in the contexts of art history, definition of the concept of applied art. 2. Basic materials and skills, outline of techniques and technologies. 3. Wood, stone, bone. 4. Other natural materials, fibers /textile/, leather, horn. 5. Groups of metals, adoption processes in historical contexts, metalsmiths, metalsmiths, metalsmiths. 6. Copper, tin, bronze. 7. Iron and steel. 8. Precious metals, goldsmiths, jewelers, minters. 9. Ceramic materials, their structure and composition, basics of typology. 10. Glass techniques, enamels. 11. Interweaving of utilitarian and artistic expressions. 12. Processes of museumization of artistic craft artifacts. 13. Public collections as a source of knowledge and study.
