Course objectives
This course introduces students to various procedures and tools used in social and educational work, specifically in working with individuals, families, and communities. The course fosters interdisciplinary connections by integrating knowledge primarily from the fields of teaching risk behavior prevention, research methodology, social work, social policy, and professional practice. The course culminates in the preparation of an analysis for planning preventive activities as part of the portfolio for the state final examinations.


Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: - explain the principles of analysis in social and social-pedagogical work, particularly in the context of prevention, - analyze the situation and needs of an individual, family, or community in the context of preventive work, - design and conduct a needs assessment applicable to the development of a preventive program. - use selected analytical tools (e.g., SWOT analysis, resource mapping, working with information), - formulate intervention or prevention goals based on the analysis 

Syllabus
1. Strategies in social and educational work. Types of analyses and their applications. 2. Identification of client needs, resources, and risks. 3. Analysis of the situation of a child at risk and the family/client. 4. Specific types of analyses in educational work: diagnostic tools, sociometric analysis of the class group, evaluation and analysis of the educational process, analysis of the school climate. 5. SWOT analysis in social and educational work. 6. Strategies, planning, and development of prevention programs. 7. Setting prevention goals. 8. Evaluation of the quality of social services. 9. Analyses for community planning. 10. – 12. Presentation and reflection on students’ seminar papers.

You must strictly fulfill the following 3 fundamental conditions. Without meeting them, you will not be allowed to take the exam:
  • Term Paper in IS SU: Complete and upload the paper to the submission folder in IS SU. The paper must meet all formal assignment requirements.

  • Assignment 1 – Peer Review in IS SU: Complete and submit a review of an assigned classmate's paper (using the form available in the study materials).
    • Submission deadline: November 30, 2026, by 6:00 PM.
  • Assignment 2 – Self-Reflective Assessment in IS SU: Complete and submit an evaluation of your classmate's paper (using the form available in the study materials).*

The exam grading is based on:
I. Assessment of the academic quality of the term paper
II. Evaluation of the presentation and defense of the term paper
