Course objectives
Objectives: The aim of the course is to understand the issues of biological conditionality and social determination in the broader context of the development and formation of the human personality with an emphasis on the dialectical determination of speech development in relation to psychological processes. Attention will be paid to symptomatic speech disorders and the principles of constructing support measures for the purpose of comprehensive human development through alternative communication systems.
Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: - the student will explain the factors influencing speech development - the student will describe the specific peculiarities of speech development in the context of disability - the student knows the secondary consequences of symptomatic speech disorders - the student is familiar with the terminology related to alternative communication systems - the student understands the principles of building alternative communication systems Professional skills: - the student will master the methods and procedures of applying selected communication systems - the student will be able to apply elements of alternative and augmentative communication in a stimulation program for children with delayed speech development in the sense of natural support of speech and language development - the student will gain experience with technical aids that mediate the process of communication General competencies: - the student can adequately reflect the special needs of people in the area of ​​communication - the student can implement special pedagogical educational, re-educational and compensatory approaches people with disabilities by applying the principles of alternative and augmentative communication - the student is ready to cooperate with other experts, not only in the field of special education, in order to support communication skills through alternative and augmentative communication

Contents: 1. Terminological definition Systems and methods of alternative and augmentative communication Advantages and disadvantages of alternative and augmentative communication Communication systems without aids Communication systems with aids Characteristics of selected alternative and augmentative communication systems, practical examples 2. Aspects and rules for choosing an alternative communication system The influence of the swallowing function on speech production. Swallowing disorders The use of alternative and augmentative communication in the education of preschool children Options of alternative and augmentative communication for people with mental disabilities Options of alternative and augmentative communication systems for people with hearing disabilities, communication systems for people with hearing disabilities Application of alternative and augmentative communication in educational reality, support measures, case studies of the use of alternative and augmentative communication in teaching students with disabilities
