Course objectives
The aim of the course is to develop linguistic competence in the field of educational care for the elderly.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able to communicate in basic form topics related to the field of educational care for the elderly. The student will also have a basic understanding of professional text.
Syllabus
  • Healthy ageing Educational activities for the elderly Wellbeing of the elderly people Media literacy for seniors LGBTQ and the elderly people Violence against seniors Addictive Behaviors in the elderly people Homelessness among seniors Trauma
Teaching methods
Discussion, group work, critical reflection on the topic
Assessment methods
Students must meet the following conditions to obtain credit: Attendance – a maximum of 2 absences, after which a written excuse is required. Active participation in classes – Engagement in discussions and activities during lessons. Group debates – Each student must participate at least once in a structured group debate on a topic related to senior care. The discussions will focus on argumentation and the use of professional terminology in English. Case study – Each student will prepare a short case study (1.5–2 standard pages) focused on a selected issue related to aging and senior care, such as: Healthy aging Educational activities for seniors Well-being in old age Media literacy among seniors LGBTQ and aging Elder abuse – seniors as victims of crime Addictive behavior in seniors Homelessness among seniors Trauma The work must include a problem analysis, key terminology in English, academic sources, and proposed solutions. The final output can be an essay, a presentation, or a video summary.
