Course objectives
The course is intended to acquaint students with specified terminology related to minority issues. The course objective is introduce the students to their first notion of multiculturalism as an emerging discipline, to provide a comprehensive overview of groups that can be included under the issues of multiculturalism, and also to provide information for (special) pedagogical practice in the context of the orientation of extremist groups, religious movements, the Roma as a nation and other oppressed or disadvantaged groups.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge:
- students have a good command of terminology related to the issues of multiculturalism
- students are well versed in the target groups of the issues
- students know the basic theoretical background of individual target groups
- students can theoretically define basic constructs (e.g. attitude, opinion, relationship, etc.)
Professional Skills:
- students understand, comprehend and perceives the negative impact of extremist, racist, xenophobic and similarly tuned intentions of members of the society
- students can describe the processes of opinion and attitude formation, as well as the factors that affect their change
- students can differentiate their own opinion, attitude and relationship to the given phenomena and circumstances
- they can perceive the issues of minorities more extensively than at the level of themselves, or their own sociocultural background
General Qualification:
- students are well versed in professional sources and can process professional text on the topic critically as well as interpret this text in various modalities; they have relevant argumentative conclusions for them
- students can process an extract of key findings, they can create book conspecti and formulate the main relevant conclusions

  • 2. Typology of minority cultures in the Czech context.
  • 3. Target and dominant groups, oppression and its forms.
  • 4. Anti-prejudice education, attitudinal and opinion patterns.
  • 5. Multicultural education in school education.
  • 6. Multicultural educator, personal profile and his competence.
  • 7. Religious groups and their contextual context.
  • 8. Migration as a societal problem.
  • 9. Roma groups and their contextual circumstances.
  • 10. Vietnamese groups and their contextual circumstances.
  • 11. Sexuality and its contextual circumstances.
  • 12. Intact and people with disabilities, disadvantages.

Personal contact in teaching, consulting hours. During continuous study, the student uses the study support and processes selected correspondence tasks. Here he will also demonstrate knowledge of compulsory literature and contact teaching lectures. The student will be able to continuously consult individually studied topics of the subject through e-mail, individual or group consultations.
